Work-life balance - getting it right!


Working for myself now, I seem to be working more hours than ever, which is quite a contrast to what appears as a bad dose of whinging from many in work. My friend Para Mullan, who's organising a session at the Battle of Ideas this year writes the following intro to her session:


The latest news on swine flu is that employees are using it as an excuse to take Mondays off. First Care, the consultancy that manages sickness-related absences from the workplace said that 43% of all calls each week for all causes take place on a Monday. Aaron Frost, chief executive says: ’The only natural conclusion is that people are using the service as a reason to take time off work.’

The New Mills School to Business Golf Challenge

The New Mills School to Business challenge proved to be an excellent way of the New Mills School involving local businesses through the New Mills Business Network it runs. Although it was the first initiative of its kind organised through the Business Network, there were 8 school students playing with 8 local business people. David Hudsmith, prominent attendee of the Networking Group and Marketing Director of Stand Security Solutions, managed to leverage his links with with Jaguar to secure the involvement of Stratstone Stockport. Terry Strong of TaxAssist Accountants also generously contributed towards the initiative by providing two £30 Argos vouchers for the winning team.

New Mills Business 'Dragons' - Update

The Make Your Mark with a tenner activity proved to be a huge success producing an inspirational number of budding entrepeneurs!


A total of 7 judges including 2 New Mills Business Network members, David Hudsmith and Chris Parrack, were involved in the final judging of the best three teams from each school.
