Animals like horses, dogs and cats can present profound behavioural problems their owners and carers find very difficult to cope with. These behavioural problems may be the result of stresses caused by neglect, poor treatment or other stresses that are worrying for all those that care for them and especially owners and carers new to the animal. Without being able to correct or normalise the behaviour the animal may become unmanageable or even begin to harm themselves and their owners and carers.

Before I begin discussing Reiki with animals let me give you a brief explanation of Reiki in general.

The term Reiki is a Japanese word, made up with two syllables

Rei - “God guided and Universal”
Ki - “Life Force Energy”

Simon Belt, a web and computer support consultant, was asked by New Mills School Business and Enterprise College to provide work experience in July 2010 to school students so they could gain practical experience of writing articles for publications. As it is difficult for young people to gain commercial experience of journalism and writing for the web, I was more than happy to help them prepare and write-up some work for the New Mills Web on local businesses and organisations by way of them doing work experience.

Here's a timeline summary of what they did and achieved. Wish I'd have got them to work on my own website now..

Volunteer centre welcomes young people

We've spent the last two weeks visiting and writing about local businesses, so we thought we'd take a look at a voluntary sector organisation. Where better than New Mills Volunteer Centre!

Upon arrival we were greeted by Cynthia and some of the other pleasant and enthusiastic staff and were offered a teacake and a cup of tea, before our interview took place. Located on Union Road, the Volunteer Centre is a bright and airy building where everyone is made to feel welcome.

A trip to Rik will do the trick!

Autotech Whaley Bridge All of the small businesses we've interviewed have surprised us with how passionate they all were to promote their businesses and how they genuinely care for their customers. Although garages and mechanics aren't really mine and Molly's thing, we took on the challenge to find out about and write about Rik Maxwell's business.

Rik's business, Autotech in Whaley Bridge was chosen by Simon Belt, our taskmaster boss for the week, as his wife chats to Rik's girlfriend on the train to and from work - an example of informal business networking if ever there was! It turned out though that it wasn't completely random as Rik also helps New Mills school students with work placements and apprenticeships.
